chawan with ash glaze

chawan with ash glaze

Ų 13cm

for this teabowl I used a porcelain body
that is extremely white and translucent.
the clay is also surprisingly plastic, so
the pieces made from it are really lightweight.
this chawan is translucent allover,
even in the foot area!
the shape bears a closeness to chinese tenmoku
teabowls and the glaze is one of my earliest and
simplest recipes, containing nothing but
sand and wood ash.
in combination with this australian clay
it shines in a new light, developing
amazing streaks and ranging in colour from
yellowish brown to almost black with blue and
green where it pools in the center
